Adult literacy and numeracy provision
The Community Learning Service teams are based in Cambuslang and Hamilton. Three Adult Literacy and Numeracy Workers are based in Cambuslang, covering the following areas:
Cambuslang, Rutherglen, Uddingston, Blantyre, Bothwell and East Kilbride
Five Adult Literacy and Numeracy Workers are based in Hamilton, covering the following areas:
Law, Lanark, Lesmahagow, Larkhall, Biggar, Rigside, Douglas, Hamilton, Stonehouse, Kirkmuirhill, Thankerton, Forth, Coalburn, Crossford, Crawford, Carluke, Nemphlar, Strathaven, Carstairs, Blackwood
We work with any adult who is over 16 and not currently in full time education. Provision is learner-centred; each learner negotiates and agrees an individual learning plan with their tutor, covering anything from reading, writing, spelling and numeracy. Popular choices for learners include help with children’s homework, entrance tests (e.g. police, army), writing reports for work, help with SVQ assignments, spelling at all levels and numeracy, particularly fractions, percentages and times tables. All learning is free and confidential, taking place in local community venues and schools. Groups are facilitated by adult literacy and numeracy tutors and often volunteer tutor assistants; learning takes place at the learner’s own pace and based around their needs.
